The Student Led Teaching Awards are one of the biggest and best celebrations of University teaching in the country.With over 1,000 nominations for each of the past three years, these awards play an important role in recognising the very best of Northumbria’s staff.

This exciting project will be launching again in the new academic year.In the meantime, we’re recruiting a committee to lead this important work.The Student Led Teaching Awards celebrate the best teaching and learning support at Northumbria University.  Our student committee leads on the delivery of this key project by:

  • Promoting the awards and encouraging students to nominate staff who they feel deserve recognition;
  • Meeting as a committee to decide on the award winners;
  • Presenting the annual awards event to celebrate those staff being recognised.

There are two roles within the Student Led Teaching Award Committee:

Committee Coordinator

The Committee Coordinator chairs meetings of the committee, bringing everyone together and inspiring their fellow volunteers.  They act as the key communication channel between the Students’ Union and the committee, and they work alongside Students’ Union staff to plan and administer the Student Led Teaching Awards budget, coordinate promotional activity, and ensure the smooth running of the project.

A real leader, the Committee Coordinator will be an organiser and a motivator.  They will show key skills around communication, delegation, time-management, relationship management, and more.  They will be a key player in ensuring the success of these awards and as such, they are a hugely important part of the NSU Education team!

Committee Members

8-10 committee members will promote the teaching awards, take part in decisions on issuing awards, and participate in presenting the awards night.  They will be active throughout the awards period, encouraging people to get involved and acting as ambassadors for the scheme.

Confident and self-motivated, committee members will be strong communicators who can speak to anyone about learning and teaching.  Their efforts and engagement with students will drive participation in the teaching awards and raise the profile and importance of excellent teaching and learning support on campus.
