2x AWARD NOMINATED 2019!
In 2018, Cohesion Security officer Melanie Costello and PC Janine Turnbull introduced the project into Northumbria University, making it the
FIRST AND ONLY UNIVERSITY IN THE UK
to have such an initiative. Several of the trained students got together and decided to make the project into a society, with the aim of getting more students trained and recognised, as well as providing the needed support, advice and awareness surrounding hate crime.
As hate crime champions, our role is to be an ambassador of hate crime awareness as well as being a point of contact for all who wish to discuss any type of hate crime or may want advice/guidance!
As a hate crime champions, you will:
- receive training and be recognised by Northumbria Police
- recieve a hate crime champion identifying marker
- offer accurate advice to victims of hate crime
- 3rd party report hate crime (should we be asked to)
- take part in our 'drop-in hubs'
- be a part of an amazing cause!
