National Student Survey is now open!
Calling final-year students! Got something to say? Help further shape the Northumbria student experience by giving your views in the NSS 2020 - www.thestudentsurvey.com !
From 23 January, all final-year students are asked to share their feedback of their experiences at Northumbria University as part of the National Student Survey (NSS). Your feedback is vital to help the University to deliver improvements where you feel that they could be made.
The University works in partnership with the Students’ Union to bring the changes you’ve highlighted – did you know that your feedback has led to these changes (amongst many others) since you started Uni?
- You requested better and bigger study spaces across all our campuses and an improved way to find available study spaces
We invested in new areas like Student Central Commons and study spaces at Coach Lane Campus so students can get to work with the best resources available.
- You wanted even greater intellectual stimulation in your modules and programmes
We continue to attract and appoint the best academics anywhere in the sector in order to support high quality learning opportunities, and many of these colleagues are now involved in delivering modules, whilst others are starting to join us in Semester Two.
- You wanted more ways to get support with your mental health
We’re serious about your mental health. You can now access support 24/7 online through Kooth, the Student Portal and you can talk to advisors outside of class time. We were also awarded £2.5m from OfS to work with students to improve the mental health and wellbeing of all students.
- You said you wanted a better Blackboard experience
We partnered with Blackboard to deliver you with a one of a kind platform, built around you, with all of your modules and materials found easily.
- You asked for more ways to access the specialist software you really need
Extra IT facilities and specialist software are available in Digital Commons and the Library Basement, increasing access to the software you’re taught on in IT Labs.
Find out more at www.northumbria.ac.uk/it/specialistsoftware and download the NU Connect app so that you can find where software is available
You wanted more opportunities to meet with your Personal Tutor
We changed our policies to make sure you can speak with them more regularly throughout the semester.
You told us you want staff to reply quicker to your questions and feedback on your work sooner
We put in place a rule that academic colleagues must reply with three working days to you and you get your work back within 20.
You asked for more of your modules that accept assessment submissions electronically
We have made sure that more modules than ever accept submissions through TurnItIn and Blackboard
How do I fill my survey out?
You’ll receive an email with a link to your survey from Ipsos MORI, who run the survey on behalf of all universities. You can also access your survey at www.thestudentsurvey.com
If you have any queries about the surveys, please ask a member of the team at NSU or speak to your programme reps and lecturers.
