Think that Freshers’ have all the fun? Think again! The Northumbria PGR Society is a society for PhD, MPhil and ProfDoc (other postgrads are welcome too...) students studying at Northumbria because we know that the PGR experience is about more than just writing a thesis. We aim to bring together PGR students from all backgrounds and from across disciplines for social events, academics seminars and trips around the region! So whether you’re just starting out on your PGR adventure or are nearing the end of your studies, we’d love for you to join us.
What do we do?
We meet often for informal social gatherings in venues around the city and beyond. We organise different types of events so that nobody's left out. Here are some of the activities we have organised in the past: regular dining out events, Bright Club comedy night, Bonfire Night, lunchtime events for those with families, day trips to Durham and Hadrian's Wall, 3 day trip to the Lake District, Bowling, afternoon tea, yoga class, etc.

The PGR Society Seminars are a series of monthly academic seminars hosted by and for postgraduate research students from all departments within the university and at any stage of their research. Two PGR speakers are invited to give presentations for around 10 minutes each, followed by 5 minutes for questions and answers. After all this food for thought, stomachs will be filled with a free networking lunch for all attendees!
