Newcastle LINKS First Aid Society
There are 2 elements to Newcastle LINKS: a society in The Students’ Union and a “unit” in St John Ambulance. Newcastle LINKS unites 2 universities: Newcastle University and Northumbria University.
Our society was founded over 20 years ago in 1995, with 5 members, with the aim to equip students with the skills to save a life.
Historically, the name ‘LINKS’ dates back to when the unit provided a link between the St John Ambulance Cadet units and Adult units.
Nowadays, most of our members are new to volunteering: some are part of the society; others volunteer with St John Ambulance.
With being a member of Newcastle LINKS, you have the brilliant opportunity to apply to become a qualified first aid volunteer for St John Ambulance where you will help by covering first aid at events around Newcastle and big events across the UK like the Great North Run, London Marathon and Brighton Pride. We provide members with free first aid qualifications and make sure those skills are kept sharp through mock scenarios throughout the year.?
Our meetings range from guest speakers to informal training to trips around Newcastle. We also provide some amazing socials including; the LINKS weekender and the infamous annual Pink bar crawl, where there are 3 rules - wear pink, drink pink, think pink!
Meetings are normally 7:00pm on Thursdays. More info on venues and socials will be available via our website and Facebook group.
