Aid is critical to those in need.
Outreach organisations such as the British Red Cross provide aid to those in need, whether this be to provide shelters for refugees or provide aid to those affected by extreme flooding. The Tanzania Development Trust are currently facing issues in Karagwe with high incidences of, extreme poverty, early marriage and Gender Based Violence. Those on the ground need our help to provide maps of the area showing roads and residential areas to facilitate their outreach world.
Through the use of OpenStreet maps we aim to map areas of the world that haven’t been subjected to mapping. Using Aerial photographs, organisations such as The British Red Cross have asked for assistance in mapping the buildings and roads in these unmarked areas.
We will be contributing to The Missing Maps project that aims to map the most vulnerable places in the world (affected by humanitarian crises: disease epidemics, conflict, natural disasters, poverty, environmental crises). Building on HOT's disaster preparedness projects, the Missing Maps tasks facilitate pre-emptive mapping of priority countries to better facilitate disaster response, medical activities and resource allocation when crises occur.
