find your Tribe

What do you think the average Northumbria student looks like? How do they spend their time? What do they worry about? What do they think of University and why did they come to Northumbira in the first place?

No two Northumbria Students will have the same answer to all of these questions, but we know a few will probably have some in common.

We know there is no such thing as the “average Northumbria Student” and that if we only aim to please the majority or a stereotype, we won’t be properly representing you and your academic interests, and that's what we're here for.

We have been working with a leading market research company to find groups of Northumbria students who share simialr characteristics in terms of their attitudes towards University and life on campus. We aim to use the groups that we've found - or Tribes as we've come to call them - to help us think about what different kinds of students really need when we are planning what the Union does and how best to keep you informed about it all.

We have developed eight “Golden Questions” which when processed through a complex algorithm, indicate the Tribe to which you most relate. We can then use this to make sure our communication with you is about things you are more likely to be interested in - if we get this right, it could mean the end of spam, imagine that!

There are five Northumbria Tribes, which we believe, broadly cover the student demographic at Northumbria. You may find that you relate to several of these, and the chances are you are made up of a mixture, we're all complicated people after all. What our system does is assign you to the tribe which is most like you.
