NUS Conference Delegate Elections and By-Elections 2017

Equality Reps are elected by students, and play a key role in campaigning for a better University and a fairer experience for all students. As our BAME Rep, Disabled Students’ Rep, Gender Diversity Rep, International Students’ Rep, Mature Students’ Rep, Women’s Rep, you could help ensure the voice of those you represent is heard loud and clear across campus. NUS Conference delegates attend NUS Conference 2018 (Tuesday 27th - Thursday 29th March). At this conference, they take forward issues affecting Northumbria students, propose and debate NUS policy, and vote in elections for its leadership. They play a key role in shaping the policies and campaigns of our national union, and are an important part of making sure the student voice is heard right across the country. Our Open Place Councillors represent all Northumbria students on our Student Executive, they speak up to make sure the Students’ Union is taking action on the things that affect students and they play an important role in events such as our Go Out And Listen Days (GOAL Days).

NSU is a democratic, student-led organisation.  Every year we elect the students who lead us, and all registered Northumbria students are eligible to stand for one of our leadership roles and to vote in the elections.

Our elected opportunities provide students with a chance to make a difference to their Union and University, and to stand up for students at Northumbria.  They also give incredible leadership experience and skills to boost your future career.

In the autumn we elect a number of Equality Representative roles for the current academic year, as well as the students who will speak up for Northumbria at the National Union of Students’ conference from Tuesday 27th to Thursday 29th March 2018.

Early in the new year we elect our leadership team for the following year – the paid sabbatical officers who are the main representatives of students and trustees of the Union, as well as the student councillors and equality reps who volunteer to make sure the Union is making a positive impact on the lives of all its students.

These pages contain information on our elections process and we hope they are helpful to you.  We’d also love to hear from you if you might be interested in leading the Students’ Union.  These are amazing opportunities and you can always come to see us about them in the Students’ Union on any Northumbria campus, or by emailing any questions to su.democracy@northumbria.ac.uk.
