Sabbatical, Student Councillor and Equality Rep Elections 2018

Our annual leadership elections - these are your chance to stand to lead your Students' Union for the next academic year and choose the students who speak for you. Sabbatical Officers or ‘Sabbs’ are the leaders of NSU. These students are elected to a paid role in which they run your Students' Union for a year. Sabbs will either be graduating this year or take a year out of their studies. They sit on Student Executive and the Board of Trustees and are responsible for ensuring strong student leadership of NSU. They are also the lead representatives of Northumbria students and speak to the University, City Council and local and national organisations to make sure the voice of students is heard. Equality Representatives are elected by students, and play a key role in campaigning for a better University and a fairer experience for all students. These volunteer representatives, while studying at Northumbria are members of Student Executive and speak up to ensure the voice of the students they represent is heard loud and clear across campus. Open Place Student Councillors are elected volunteers who sit on our Student Executive, representing all Northumbria students, and they campaign to improve their learning experience. They do this role alongside their studies and they are a key part of Go Out and Listen Days and the campaigns work of NSU.

NSU is a democratic, student-led organisation.  Every year we elect the students who lead us, and all registered Northumbria students are eligible to stand for one of our leadership roles and to vote in the elections.

Our elected opportunities provide students with a chance to make a difference to their Union and University, and to stand up for students at Northumbria.  They also give incredible leadership experience and skills to boost your future career.

From Monday 4th December nominations are open in our elections for Sabbatical Officers, Student Councillors and Equality Reps. We'd encourage all students to think about these amazing opportunities. The Sabbatical Officer role is one of the best grad job in the world with a salary starting at £18,000 a year and the opportunity to lead a multi-million pound campaigning organisation.

These pages contain information on our elections process and we hope they are helpful to you.  We’d also love to hear from you if you might be interested in leading the Students’ Union.  These are amazing opportunities and you can always come to see us about them in the Students’ Union on any Northumbria campus, or by emailing any questions to su.democracy@northumbria.ac.uk.
