Sun's Out, Sabbs In.

Hi all! So it’s a brand new year with a brand new Sabb Team and it’s already getting busy. With old campaigns to revive, new priorities and the changing landscape, the summer is going to be action packed. Here’s just a quick update about my plans for the summer.

Manifesto

Every year, sabbatical officers are elected on their manifestoes; these are pledges that we make to the student body about what we want to change. This is what we are held to account by, so you can always ask us how our work is going. The main things I want to achieve are:

  • Clearer rules around bursaries and scholarships, and more transparency around fees
  • Securing bursaries on NHS courses
  • Opening access for rooms on campus for student groups to use for their activities
  • Getting a nap room on campus!

There are a ton of other things I want to do and I will keep you updated about what I’m doing. My manifesto can be found on the website if you want more info.

Campaign planning

We also run our own campaigns every year about what affects students. We will be spending the summer deciding what our priorities are and how we can achieve the best for students. Once these are finalised, you will see us across all our campuses (probably with freebies), so come and have a chat.

Freshers Week!

This is the highlight of my calendar – this will be my sixth Freshers’ week and they just keep getting better. We have loads of new ideas for the night time events but also plenty of plans for the daytime. There will be some usual favourites, such as Lo Reid the hypnotist, karaoke, an Open Mic Night and much more. We’ll also be chucking in new things and announcing our acts shortly (trust me, it’s mint).

If you want more info, check out our microsite here --> http://www.mynsu.co.uk/freshers/

I’ll keep it short and sweet. I’ll keep you posted with more fun stuff and more serious things as well.

I hope you’re all enjoying the summer and I can’t wait to see you all in September.
