Did you know that Newcastle boasts 33 different Parks and Open spaces across the City? Though there are many things we are all unable to do this Christmas, exploring nature and the great outdoors is still allowed so lets see how many you can explore!

Meet outside the Students’ Union to walk to the beautiful Jesmond Dene. The Dene is a unique haven of peace and tranquillity for the people of Newcastle. It is a narrow wooded valley that follows the river Ouseburn between South Gosforth and Jesmond Vale. This provides an important wildlife corridor right into the centre of Newcastle. If you are staying on-campus over the Christmas period you can access the gym, swimming pool and fitness classes with a FREE 2-week Sport Central pass.
The pass will run from Saturday 19 December – Sunday 3 January. You’ll be able to make use of the facilities during our Christmas Opening Times.
To ‘activate’ your pass please email firstname.lastname@example.org using ‘Two Week Festive Pass’ as the subject and provide your name, DOB, Student Number and Email address. A member of our team will get back in touch to confirm your membership and answer any questions you may have.

The Big Bag of Sport – each Hall of Residence has been provided with a ‘bi Bag of Sport’ for you all to enjoy free of charge! All manner of bats, balls and racquets are there for you to sign out and enjoy, ask at your Halls reception for more details.
The Rising Sun Country Park is a beautiful green space, 162 hectares large, within walking distance of Palmersville Metro station. Boasting a nature reserve with ponds, woodlands and extensive grasslands; a farm and Countryside Centre, the site is a haven for wildlife and an ideal place to relax and enjoy the great outdoors.

A bracing festive walk to visit the iconic Angel of the North statue, taking in a stop at the lovely Saltwell Park in Gateshead on the way home. Visit Gateshead’s most celebrated parrot and see if he swears at you! Meet at the SU at 11am to walk to Haymarket bus station, bus fare needed, dress for the weather and bring money for lunch
Wednesday 23rd & Sunday 27th December, 1pm-3pm, “The 3-household Festive Mingle”, The Tent, outside Northumbria Students’ Union (City Campus)
We’re taking advantage of the temporary relaxation in household-mixing to bring you a lunchtime social in our heated tent. Expect music, a Quiz, hot chocolate, traditional mulled wine, festive sweet treats and an opportunity to make soe new friends. Though restrictions do not allow us to bring you events on these dates, the Students’ Union building will be open for you to enjoy and we will provide hot drinks and sweet treats in Escape (1st floor, City Campus Students’ Union building).
