NSU has a selection of bars, club venues and ‘rooms -for-hire’ across City Campus and at Coach Lane too. Whether you fancy a coffee to fuel your day ahead, a hot meal when you can’t be bothered to cook, pre’s before a big night on the toon or even better, a big night at the SU with your fellow Northumbrians, NSU can literally cater for your every need.
The Greenhouse is open and is the place to be for healthy grab-n-go meals on campus.
If you’re looking for ethical, fresh, healthy food as well as sustainable and locally sourced refreshments, then look no further than The Greenhouse. Located on the ground floor of NSU, the café will offer everything from salads and soups to smoothies and small bites.
Our café also aims to help the community, we have partnered with charity, Change Please who reinvests in homeless charities through coffee sales. What’s more, the money we make through our venues is put back into YOUR Students’ Union to make sure that your student experience is the best it can be, whether that is extra funding for societies, improving our facilities or better entertainment and events.
Why not pop in for a coffee or a nibble and take in the atmosphere right here on campus.

Our stylish and relaxed cocktail bar has won awards for a reason. With great value on drinks every day, table service, a delicious menu of lite- bites, sharing plates and main meals. If alcohol’s not your thing, we proudly serve Starbucks coffee with the cheapest prices in town. Reds bar is unlike any other bar in Newcastle. With raised seating areas, leather upholstered booths and a curtained VIP area, Reds is a venue with personality and we can welcome as many as 900 students in there at a time. Complete with its very own stage and huge dancefloor, the bar has played host to some epic gigs and events in years gone by. Theme nights in Reds have developed quite the reputation; typically you’ll find cheesy music, candy floss, rodeo bulls and some off the best fancy dress around.
Domain is NSU’s biggest venue – so big in fact we can easily fit inflatable bungy runs and bouncy castles in there during the biggest parties throughout the year. Domain is also a great venue for the bigger gigs we host with recent guests including Ed Sheeran, Ella Eyre and London Grammar. With a sleek and stylish bar, optional stage, full AV and a lighting and sound rig, Domain is a truly versatile venue. It’s ideal for the occasions when we celebrate how fantastic our students are, such as our Annual Awards show.
Stage 2 is a firm favourite with students who love to perform. A purpose built performance space, the room is used for student assessments and shows. Thanks to the high-tech AV and lighting equipment i n the room we’ve also welcomed several production companies to broadcast live programmes such as the BBC’s Big Questions and Question Time, direct from NSU.
Aptly named, Escape is a great place to get away from it all. With giant bean bags (great for a nap between lectures!), sofas and computers around the room you can come and chill out, check your emails, eat lunch and maybe catch up on some work. Feel free to bring your own lunch, too as we’ve now got a microwave in there.
